At service, inspect lubricant for grit, water, discoloration, and unusual texture. Compare the grease near the seal with grease deeper inside. Cleaner lubricant after a sealing upgrade indicates that the external barrier is working more effectively. Record operating hours so changes in bearing life can be measured objectively.
